Lighting an apartment, on the 1st floor, on a courtyard – Testimony of Joris in Paris
Passionate about Africa, Joris and his girlfriend live in a beautiful apartment in Paris, on the 1st floor. Its windows overlook an inner courtyard and the sun never descends to their level. So much so that on a grey day, his apartment lacks daylight. For this young couple, between the luminosity of their travels in Africa and the dullness of Paris, there is a continent of difference! Here is Joris’ testimony about Espaciel, and how he managed to light his dark apartment.

Background on Joris’ situation
Can you show us your home?
I live in a Parisian apartment on the first floor on an inner courtyard. I feel really good there but when we moved in my girlfriend was afraid it would be too dark. The windows are not very large and do not give enough light to the rooms where we spend most of our time, namely the living room and the kitchen.
In addition, I have an important opposite that blocks out the sun’s rays. As is often the case in Paris, my neighbours’ wall is only a few metres from my windows. I can see the sun coming up from the courtyard on the 4th and 5th floors but it never comes down to my house. I was looking for a solution to reconcile the charm of our home with our need for natural light.
How did you think about the light reflector?
I discovered Espaciel on the Internet and got in touch by email. A lighting consultant answered me very quickly to advise me. He confirmed that these products were selling well and that they were suitable for my home. He confirmed to me that these products were selling well and that they were adapted for my home: apartment on courtyard, without sun. For my living room and bedrooms I ordered window reflectors in depth 35 cm, in length 80 and 100 cm.
For the patio overlooking the dining room I opted for the terrace reflectors.

How was the installation?
I received my light reflectors on time, well packed in their box. The service and customer care were impeccable. The installation went well and yet I’m not at all a do-it-yourselfer! I took a good look at the Espaciel installation instructions and I installed my 8 light reflectors. I am proud to have been able to do it myself.
Are you satisfied with your light reflectors?
Before I installed them, I had my doubts. The sun never reaches my windows. And in gray weather I couldn’t see how these reflectors would work and make me brighter…
But after reading the characteristics of the light reflector on the Espaciel website I understood that it works every day. No matter the weather, the light from the sky falling in the yard in front of my windows bounces off the reflector to illuminate my interior.
Now that the Espaciel reflectors are installed in every room I see a real difference. Even on rainy days, more light comes into my house. It’s as if my windows are bigger, or my apartment is one or two floors higher. I also appreciate being able to adjust the angle of the reflectors to project the light towards the ceiling or deeper into the room.
It may seem anecdotal but with the reflectors, I can see the sky from my couch! I can see the weather, the passing clouds… It enlarges the field of vision. My point of view from the window is more beautiful and animated.
